Council awards new £40 million road resurfacing contract

Gloucestershire County Council has awarded a new £40 million contract for road resurfacing work across the county.

Tarmac have been awarded a two-year contract to carry out road resurfacing operations across Gloucestershire on behalf of the council.

The contract, which is worth £20 million per year, runs until 2024 and has the option to be extended to 2026.

Resurfacing will continue to be run in the way it currently is, with the council and Tarmac working collaboratively as one team to deliver schemes.

The new contract will officially start on 1 April.

Tarmac have been the providers of the council’s road resurfacing operations since 2018.

Cllr Vernon Smith, Cabinet member for Highways and Flooding, said: “We are committed to investing in our roads and this new contract with Tarmac allows us to continue to improve road surfaces to keep Gloucestershire moving.

“I’d like to congratulate Tarmac on their successful contract and look forward to continuing to work with them.

“We have committed to delivering an additional £100 million investment into improving our roads, and this resurfacing contract is a crucial way of doing that.”
