More than two million items of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) have been delivered across Gloucestershire in response to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The milestone was reached last week thanks to a huge collective effort from partners across the county since the coronavirus outbreak began.

Items including gloves, masks, visors and gowns have been delivered to health and care settings around Gloucestershire to keep doctors, carers and nurses safe as they provide vital care to those affected by Covid-19.

Stocks have been supplied by government drops and local businesses and community groups, who have generously offered to help.

Despite the challenge this has posed, stocks remain at a good level in the county.

Sarah Scott, Gloucestershire’s director of public health, said: “It has only been because of a great team effort by colleagues in the police, fire and rescue service, the county council, health, local businesses, military and government that we have been able to keep stocks flowing into the county and then swiftly distributed to those that need it.

“I just want to say a massive thank you to everyone involved. To those who have received deliveries and organised stocks, to those who have made deliveries day and night and to the health and care staff who have put it to such good use.”

Dr Andy Seymour, clinical chair at NHS Gloucestershire Clinical Commissioning Group, said: “Over the past weeks, securing supplies of PPE has been hugely demanding but absolutely critical for keeping our health and social care colleagues safe. Achieving this milestone has come about as the result of a huge collective effort involving many partners across the county.

“Our teams have worked around the clock to achieve these crucial supplies which have been invaluable to our frontline staff and we are extremely grateful for their perseverance and determination.”
