Tetbury benefits from the £150m investment
The A4135 Charlton Road and Hookshouse Lane in Tetbury will be resurfaced during November as part of the county council’s £150m investment into Gloucestershire’s roads.
Charlton Road and Hookshouse Lane in Tetbury have both reached the end of their life expectancy and require resurfacing. Charlton Road is a busy and popular A road and every effort is being taken to minimise disruption, so the road will still be open during peak times.
The A4135 Charlton Road will be resurfaced from Tuesday 13th to Monday 19th November between 9:30am – 3:30pm (excluding weekends). Hookshouse Lane is a rural route and will be resurfaced from Monday 12th to Monday 26th November between 7am – 7pm (excluding weekends).
Highways crews will complete resurfacing across a total of 11,712m² of road with approximately 1,378 tonnes of material.
Cllr Vernon Smith, cabinet member for highways and flood, said: “Both roads need repairing, so as part of our £150 million investment we are tackling the problem head on in order to keep Gloucestershire moving. I would like to thank road users and residents in advance for their cooperation while this essential work is carried out.”
Cllr Stephen Hirst, county councillor for Tetbury, said: “Charlton Road and Hookshouse Lane are important routes for residents and visitors to Tetbury, so this work will be a great contribution to the area. I’d like to thank local residents in advance for bearing with us whilst both closures take place.”
What’s the diversion route? (only suitable for light vehicle traffic)
At the junction with the A4135 follow the A46 towards Nailsworth. Take a right at the junction with the B4014 Avening Road, following the road into Avening and then onto the B4014 Tetbury Hill. Continue along the B4014 towards Tetbury and at the junction with the A433 take a left and then an immediate right onto the A4135 to reach the point of the closure. The diversion is the same in reverse.
There is no suitable diversion route available from either direction for HGV vehicles wishing to access the centre of Tetbury or the Cotswold Airport via the A433 due to the 18.5t weight limit through Tetbury and the 3.9m height restriction at the railway bridge on the A433 near Kemble. It is advised that any HGV access takes place before the closure at 9:30am or after 3:30pm for the duration of the works.
