Save money on energy bills

As energy prices continue to rise, do you know anyone who could benefit from smaller fuel bills this winter?

Residents can save more money if they join the next round of the Big Community Switch.

If a large number of people want to change their supplier together, they are more likely to get a better deal than just one person shopping around on their own. Since the launch of the initiative, over 1,200 households have switched and benefitted from an average annual saving of over £270 on their annual energy bill. There are over 250,000 households in Gloucestershire so a huge number of people could benefit.

Cllr Mark Hawthorne, leader of Gloucestershire County Council, said, “We know there are people in the county who would benefit from saving money on heating their home. The process of switching can often put people off, so if you know of any friends or family members who could benefit from smaller fuel bills we have tried to make this as easy as possible.”

The scheme is very easy to take part in and is open to mains electricity and gas users, including those on pre-payment meters. Residents who want to save money on their energy bills can register on line and they will receive an offer at the end of October. There is no commitment to accept the deal offered.

The Big Community Autumn Switch opened on 29 August and over 100 people have already registered to find out how much they might save. The easiest way to register your interest is online at

You can visit your local library to get online and find out more information, or call 01452 425757 between 10am and 3pm from Monday to Friday. Registration will be easier if you have a recent energy bill to hand.

By registering your interest you are under no obligation to switch supplier. Residents need to register their interest with the Big Community Switch by 9 October at the latest.
