As part of the county council’s £150 million investment in your highways; crews will be resurfacing the A48 Chaxhill from Hartland's Hill to Walmore Hill from Tuesday 18th September to Monday 8th October.

The A48 Chaxhill is a busy road and has reached the end of its life expectancy. Highway crews will be resurfacing over 22,314m² of road with approximately 2,625 tonnes of material. To help minimise disruption to residents and commuters, the work will be done overnight between 7pm and 7am (excluding Saturday and Sunday nights).

Cllr Vernon Smith, cabinet member for highways and flood, said: “We’re resurfacing the busy A48 at Chaxhill as part of our £150 million promise to upgrade the county’s roads. This scheme will repair another part of this essential road through Westbury-on-Severn, helping to keep Gloucestershire moving.”

Cllr Brian Robinson, local county councillor for Mitcheldean, said: “The A48 Chaxhill is used by thousands of vehicles everyday and is an important route for residents and visitors here in Westbury-on-Severn, so this resurfacing will be a great contribution to the area.”

What’s the diversion route?

From the western extents of the closure, the diversion is on the A48 and turning right onto A4151 then continue along B4226 turning right onto B4227 (Valley Road) then turning left onto A4151 (Steam Mills Road). At Nailbridge, at the junction with the A4136 turn right and follow the road via Plump Hill, Mitcheldean and Longhope to the junction with the A40. Turn right and take the A40 towards Gloucester. At the Higham Court roundabout take the second exit and follow the A48 to the closure point. Diversion is the same in reverse.
