GRH Gloucestershire Royal Hospital School Room
GHES Inpatients’ Facility:
GHES Inpatients’ Facility is located on the first floor of Gloucestershire Royal Hospital in the Children’s Centre. The School Room is open to children of all abilities aged 4-16 years who are admitted as inpatients to GRH Children’s Centre.
Teaching hours and subjects:
Engagement in education is offered from day one of admission, Monday to Friday from 9.00am - 3.30pm.
Daily timetable includes the following:
- Maths
- English
- Science
- Careers
- ICT / computing
- History
- RE
- MFL (Modern Foreign Languages)
- Art
- Wellbeing which includes Yoga, Mindfulness etc.
- Music therapy
- Cross-curricular workshop
- DT – Food and Nutrition
- Reflection Time – hospital chaplains led discussion / focus
Additional subjects may be offered according to the pupils’ needs.
Teaching and examinations
Teaching can be offered 1: 1 at the bedside or in the School Room in small groups.
Examinations can be sat in GRH Children’s Centre if approved by the medical staff and mainstream school.
Access to learning
The School Room is totally inclusive, providing personalised educational support for all children medically able to access learning, regardless of their mobility or ability.
Our teaching staff work collaboratively with parents / carers, mainstream schools and health professionals to ensure that the educational, health and emotional wellbeing of pupils are met.
Discharge from hospital
On being discharged from hospital those pupils who are too unwell to return to school for a period of three weeks or more may be referred to GHES Outpatients Team by a consultant or tier three CAMHs practitioner.
