Gloucestershire Royal Hospital Children’s Centre
In the Gloucestershire Royal Hospital Children’s Centre, we teach all young people of school age, who are in-patients including those with special needs. This is a 38 bed ward, 4 of which are dedicated to oncological patients. There is also an 8 bed day surgery bay.
Due to Covid19 some restructuring of the hospital has taken place. Children’s A & E is now based in the Children’s Centre. The lay out of the ward is subject to change during the pandemic.
GHES Inpatients’ Facility (GRH School Room)
GHES Inpatients’ Facility is located on the first floor of Gloucestershire Royal Hospital in the Children’s Centre. The School Room is open to children of all abilities aged 4-16 years who are admitted as inpatients to GRH Children’s Centre.
School teachers work in partnership with parents / carers, schools, play therapists and health professionals to provide a valuable and appropriate learning experience while young people are inpatients.
School Room staff can liaise with your child’s main school to inform them of your child’s admittance to hospital. There is a planned timetable based but staff can contact your child’s school to request work if their admission is prolonged or recurrent.
The School Room is well resourced and staff are available to help and support children, their parents and carers to ensure that children happily engage in education and return to school smoothly following their discharge.
