Support in submitting nominations for National Honours

Gloucestershire receives fewer national honours than other places.  To address this issue and to encourage more nominations the Lieutenancy has engaged help:

  1. To provide information about the honours process;
  2. To encourage nominations from all parts of the ceremonial county i.e. Gloucestershire and South Gloucestershire
  3. To support individuals embarking on the process of nominating an individual for an honour

There are 3 main stages to the Honours process.

Stage 1

  1. Identifying a person who meets the criteria for a national honour
  2. Establishing a case which must provide evidence about the individual’s contribution in voluntary, public service or commercial organisations

Stage 2

  1. Completing the forms which can be obtained from the Cabinet Office website
  2. Finding 3 / 4 individuals able to write citations to support the case: the aim is to provide a rounded picture of the individual’s contribution

Stage 3

  1. Making the submission to the Cabinet Office
  2. The outcome, which will not be known for at least 18 months
