Royal Visits
The Lord-Lieutenant is responsible for organising formal royal visits within the county.
This involves submitting proposals to members of the Royal Family giving details of organisations and local charities they may choose to visit, making arrangements for the visit locally and receiving the member of the Royal Family on the day of the visit. As part of this process, the Lord-Lieutenant is assisted by staff at Gloucestershire County Council, Shire Hall, Gloucester.
Royal visits recently have included:
- Charities, such as Camphill Village Trust (Taurus Crafts in Lydney, Gloucestershire Academy of Music, Spinal Injuries Association Charity Polo Day at Cirencester Park, The Nelson Trust, and Blackbridge Community and Sports Hub.
- Companies such as Freemans Event Partners in Hardwicke
- Educational and public service organisations that included the Fire Service College in Moreton-in-Marsh, Gloucestershire Engineering Training in Barnwood and the English Rural Housing Association in Avening
- Community events, including Lydney Town Centre following flood damage, and Gloucester Cathedral
Requesting a Royal Visit
If an organisation in which you are involved wishes to be considered for a Royal visit please write in the first instance to the Lord-Lieutenant at least 9-12 months before an intended visit with:
- Details about the organisation to be visited (including full postal address)
- Reason for the request at this time (e.g. opening a new building or anniversary celebration)
- Outline proposal of what the visit might comprise (e.g. whom they would meet and what they would do in a visit of approximately 45/60 minutes)
- Contact details, including name, email address and telephone number of the person making the enquiry
- Pending confirmation by the Royal Household, we ask that the details of the proposed visit are held in confidence (on a need -to-know basis).
- The reason for a request at this time (e.g. opening a new building: anniversary)
- A proposal of what the visit would comprise (e.g. whom they would meet and what they would do in a visit of 45/60 minutes)
