Volunteering

The Lieutenancy promotes all forms of volunteering that:

  • benefit local communities
  • appeal to people of all ages
  • encourages safeguarded training and mentoring of young people
  • helps to address social isolation
  • nurtures new skills and lifelong learning

For those who are interested in making a contribution to society by volunteering, here are a number of useful contacts, including www.gov.uk/volunteering.

Volunteer as a Magistrate

The Lieutenancy promotes the recruitment of Magistrates, an opportunity to serve your community and gain new skills. See https://magistrates.judiciary.uk/ for details.

Become a Cadet Force Adult Volunteer

We also promote the recruitment of adults volunteering to support the Sea, Army and Air Cadets. Without Adult Volunteers, our Cadet Forces just wouldn’t be able to operate. See https://adultvolunteer.org

Joining the Lieutenancy

Becoming a member of the Lieutenancy Team is a very special way to serve His Majesty The King and the Community. We aspire to have a Lieutenancy that truly represents the people of Gloucestershire and South Gloucestershire.

The number of Deputy Lieutenants we are able to appoint is linked to population size.

We welcome contact from people who are interested in joining and invite them to write to edward.gillespie@gloucestershire.gov.uk
