Lucy Faithful- Stop It Now

Stop It Now is a national campaign delivered by the Lucy Faithfull Foundation (LFF) the only UK-wide charity dedicated solely to preventing child sexual abuse, both offline and online. Since 2015, the campaign has worked to deter harmful behaviour, promote early intervention, and stop abuse before it happens or before it escalates.

Stop It Now focuses on prevention, offering anonymous support to anyone worried about their own or someone else’s behaviour, and providing guidance to families, carers, and professionals who want to protect children.

About the Lucy Faithfull Foundation

The Lucy Faithfull Foundation supports all those affected by child sexual abuse, including:

  • Adults who have offended or who are worried about their sexual thoughts or behaviour
  • Young people whose behaviour may be harmful
  • Family members of those who pose a risk
  • Adult survivors of child sexual abuse
  • Professionals working in safeguarding, education, health, justice and community services

LFF takes a whole‑system approach to preventing abuse, offering specialist advice, intervention, and education.

What is the Stop It Now Campaign?

Stop It Now provides anonymous, confidential support for:

  • Adults concerned about their own thoughts, feelings or behaviour
  • Adults worried about someone else’s behaviour
  • Adults concerned about a child who may be at risk or displaying concerning behaviour
  • Survivors of child sexual abuse
  • Professionals seeking specialist advice

The campaign includes:

1. Anonymous Helpline

A confidential phoneline offering immediate support and guidance from trained advisors. Callers do not need to give their name or any identifying information.

2. Live Chat and Secure Email

Online support for individuals who prefer written communication or are not ready to speak to someone on the phone.

3. Online Self‑Help Modules

Digital tools designed to help people understand and manage harmful thoughts or risky behaviour.

4. Psychoeducational Programmes

Structured programmes for individuals who have been arrested, cautioned, or convicted for online offences, as well as support for their families. These programmes help reduce the risk of reoffending and support long‑term change.

Campaign Aims

The Stop It Now campaign aims to:

  • Increase awareness of child sexual abuse and the steps adults can take to protect children
  • Equip parents, carers and protective adults with practical tools and reliable information
  • Support professionals working with children and families
  • Provide safe, anonymous pathways for those worried about their behaviour to seek early help
  • Reduce demand for illegal online content and deter grooming or other harmful behaviours

Why This Campaign Matters

Online sexual offending and the viewing or sharing of illegal images of children remain significant and growing risks. Prevention messaging and early intervention are critical in helping adults recognise concerning behaviour and seek help before a child is harmed. Stop It Now provides a safe space for individuals to take responsibility and access support that can prevent further harm.

How GSCP Supports the Campaign

The Gloucestershire Safeguarding Children Partnership (GSCP) endorses the Stop It Now campaign as an essential part of child protection. By promoting the campaign, GSCP helps ensure that:

  • Adults know where to get anonymous, specialist help
  • Professionals can signpost evidence-based support
  • Families and communities are empowered to play an active role in preventing abuse
  • Individuals worried about their behaviour can access intervention before a child is put at risk
