Moving and Handling (Oct 2005, revised December 2010)

The Moving and Handling policy is for all Community & Adult Care Directorate staff who are working with service users whose mobility is impaired.

The purpose of the policy is to ensure that:

  • A quality service is maintained throughout the organisation
  • There is improved safety and comfort for service users
  • The risk of injury to staff is reduced
  • Legal requirements are met

For children in education settings, a separate Moving and Handling Policy currently exists.

The Risk Assessment Form and Guidance has been developed jointly by Gloucestershire County Council and Gloucestershire PCT. It aims to give a consistent approach to risk assessment which should be a benefit to service users and staff alike and it supports the joint approach adopted in the policy..
