The role of a Team Manager

As a Team Manager you will be accountable for a team of social workers on the front line working with children and young people. These workers will be making first contact with children and families, ensuring children are seen in a timely manner, quality assessments of need are completed and the necessary actions taken. 


I qualified as a social worker in 1997 and have worked in safeguarding and managed assessment and the front door. 

I have undertaken team manager roles across the Midlands and also in Manchester. Prior to coming to Gloucestershire I was a Guardian but I greatly missed the interest and variety of front line work. I started in Gloucestershire in August 2018 and can honestly say that I have found it to be demanding but incredibly rewarding. No front line role either as a social worker or as a manager is ever quiet and that is part of the appeal to me. I enjoy being busy and working directly with committed and capable staff who keep children at the heart of the work they do. While it is true to say that Gloucestershire Children’s Services is on an improvement journey, this does not mean that the workloads are overwhelming or that staff are unhappy. In fact, I have found the staff to be one of the biggest reasons to work in Gloucestershire. We have a fantastic ASYE offer, regular training and free parking! I thoroughly enjoy my role and work with people who really care about their job but are able to have a sense of humour too.
