User-led Quality Checks
Experts by Experience are a key part of the Quality Assurance Programme.
To complete quality checks, we commission a user-led organisation run by people who receive services themselves, and who can offer expert advice based on their lived experiences. At the heart of these checks are two individuals with shared experience of disability, having a conversation. The quality checkers follow an evidence based framework of best practice, identify areas of good support and suggest improvements for the provider to act upon to ensure people who face disabling barriers are receiving high quality, person centred support.
The organisation is flexible to the needs of service users, for example, using observational techniques, or Makaton signing to enhance communication. The team has a broad range of expertise and lived experience in the areas of learning disability, physical disability and mental ill health.
An example of the quality visit can be seen on: IG Quality Check visit.
Inclusion Gloucestershire, alongside the quality checking offer, also provide peer mentoring and advocacy, work in communities directly with people who face disabling barriers through their social hubs, expert led and co-produced training courses and inclusive drama groups.
