Funded training opportunities

The public health team in Gloucestershire County Council organises additional and bespoke training courses in mental health awareness, suicide awareness/prevention, postvention and other areas.
These free courses are available to those working/volunteering in public and VCS sector and community groups, who come across members of the public.
Please find the details below of the next training that is available in addition to our core training offer organised by the Healthy Lifestyles Service (you can get in touch with the team here for more information on their courses).
Only attendees who have reserved a place will be able to attend (click on the arrows against each course for information on how to book a place). Anyone who turns up without a confirmed place may be turned away.

MHCC (Mental Health Crisis Care Awareness for those supporting people in financial and employment difficulty) Courses Dec 22, Jan, Feb & Mar 23
Course prerequisites: Those who support people with employment/debt/financial difficulty.
Course objectives: To understand what is mental health and what is mental illness and how this may manifest for those in financial and employment difficulty.
When:
Course 1 - 19th and 20th December 2022 9am - 1.30pm
Course 2 - 4th and 5th January 2023 9am to 1.30pm
Course 3- 15th and 16th February 2023 9am - 1.30pm
Course 4 - 22nd and 23rd March 2023 9am - 1.30pmMethod: Online (via Zoom) 9 hours over two consecutive mornings 9am -1.30 pm. (A link will be provided when your place has been confirmed).

Attention Seekers? (Bespoke self-harm awareness training) - 1 course in March 2023
Course prerequisites: Those working/volunteering for public & VCS sector organisations or community groups, who come across members of the public.
Course objectives: To help attendees build confidence around the subject of self-harm by reducing stigma, anxiety and fear about the often stigmatised and misunderstood topic of self-harm. Covering statistics, the definition of self-harm, the relationship between self-harm and suicide, triggers and functions of self-harm, and how best to respond to self-harm – language use, alternative strategies. Through all this, staff and volunteers are better able to respond to disclosures of self-harm.
