Community Dementia Link (CDL)
The course aims to deliver bespoke education packages to those public members outside of statutory roles and encourages confidence in individuals and groups to carry out projects that involve and support the person with dementia and their carers. The course aims to meet the needs of the local community as well as the group and is usually held over 4 separate sessions totalling 12 hours’ training. Once completed, members are encouraged to participate in the wider DTES support network via monthly forums. The forums are open to anyone who has completed any aspect of the education and training pathway.
Topics frequently considered:
- The brain and dementia,
- The environment,
- Person centred care and the 5 psychological needs
- Practical skills and project planning.
There is an expectation that the group will develop a project using their knowledge and skills to support their local community. Coaching and mentoring support is offered from a member of the training team.
