Gloucestershire Active Travel Advice Note

Gloucestershire County Council have prepared a guidance document to help support the implementation of the national Local Transport Note (LTN) 1/20 Cycle Infrastructure Design produced by the Department for Transport within Gloucestershire.

The Gloucestershire Active Travel Advice Note (GATAN) embodies the principles of LTN 1/20 and provides the local context for the implementation of the national guidance which includes agreed approaches to key design details and aspects of active travel infrastructure provision such that the development of a consistent, safe and inclusive network can be realised across the county.

The GATAN is a working document that is continually updated to readily capture lessons learned, innovation and efficiencies that support continual improvement. GATAN will help the council align with national policy and funding streams that support a step change in active travel provision across the county and address typical barriers to project delivery whilst ensuring consistent design principles are applied across all projects.

Cllr David Gray, Cabinet member responsible for the environment at Gloucestershire County Council, said: “The Gloucestershire Active Travel Advice Note reflects our commitment to promoting and leading on the development of cycle infrastructure best practice.

“It is also in line with the council’s ambitious plans to grow significantly the levels of high-quality cycle and walking routes in the county.”
