Business benefits

The most obvious yet frequently overlooked benefits of an improved recruitment process are reducing the costs associated to both the process itself, and staff retention.

Other benefits can sometimes be more difficult to quantify yet are still significant.

One example which perfectly illustrates this is the feedback we captured when creating an informative video on ‘Job Coaching’.  This is the process we follow to embed a new employee or improve an existing employee’s performance at work. In the video,  the employer shared how the staff member who lived with a heath condition had demonstrated how they overcame the issues and worked effectively. This resulted in other staff being more considerate to each other and a reduction in petty squabbles. And it is hard to put a currency value on that.

Having a more diverse and inclusive workforce can bring benefits at many levels within your organisation. This includes things like increased loyalty, renewed team motivation and staff retention, customer loyalty / endorsement, attracting new employees who value equality, diversity, and inclusion within organisations, a wider range of talent and new ways of looking at things, as well as the generation of positive PR. Inclusion in the workplace is one of the key aspects to successfully retaining an employee. If an employee doesn’t feel that their ideas or contributions are truly valued, they will disengage and ultimately leave.

Taking equality, diversity and inclusion in your organisation seriously offers many potential business benefits

  • Talent – people want to work for employees with good employment practices. They also want to feel valued at work and that their contribution matters.
  • Competitiveness – to be competitive organisations need everyone in their business to make their best contribution. More employers are recognising the importance of diversity and inclusion in recruiting and retaining the very best skills and talent that they need in order for their business to thrive.
  • Corporate reputation – brand– Diversity and Inclusion is good for your business reputation and is important in attracting both new customers and employees.

We asked our employer forum what benefits come with having a inclusive workplace:

  • Widening the pool of applicants.
  • Diverse team of lived experience with different ideas and diverse ways of doing things.
  • Committed team members; people who are disabled often have a better work ethic.
  • Lived experience can help see things from a different point of view.
  • Lived experience; organisations walk the talk.
  • Helps deliver the aims of the organisation.
