November 2020 Lockdown Message

In line with the Government announcement of 31st October, introducing new national restrictions, libraries will be closed for general public access from Thursday 5th November 2020.

We  will continue to  offer our ‘Off the Shelf’ and ‘Reserve and Collect’ services and some libraries will also provide limited access to public PCs for essential use only.  Please check our website www.gloucestershire.gov.uk/libraries for updated information and collection times.

No fines will be incurred whilst libraries are closed, however, should you wish to return any items you currently have on loan, please return them using the library drop box or letterbox.  You can renew your library items at : https://gloucestershire.spydus.co.uk

Computer Access and Printing Book a computer for essential access

In line with the Government announcement of the 31st October, introducing new national restrictions, access to public PCs for essential use only including printing will be available up to the 9th December.

Selected Libraries will provide limited access to public computers.

What is on offer?

  • PC sessions are for up to 50 minutes
  • Book 1 session, made up to 8 days in advance
  • You have 10 min from the booking start time when you can book in
  • Walk up access is not available – sessions need to be booked in advance.
  • Printing will be available – please note the charges for any printing will be added to your library member account, and can be paid online or in a library by 31st December 2020
  • Photocopying will not be available
  • Public Wi Fi will not be available for use
  • All of our computers have accessibility software loaded.
  • Our computers don't have speakers. You will need to bring your own headphones to make use of sound-based facilities
  • Scanning will be available via Scan PCs only - please book a PC session to access
  • There will be no photocopying services available.
  • Please note owing to Covid safe working and social distancing there will be minimal contact with staff so support when using computers will be limited unless social distancing can be maintained

 

Please Note: Restrictions will be placed on the internet access available during this period: services such as streaming (e.g. viewing films or games), and access to game and gambling websites will be blocked in line with the access being for essential services only.

How can I book?

Library Members will be able to book online using the booking page. You will require your Library Card number and 4 digit PIN make a booking. The page will be updated shortly.

For those people without Internet Access, from Monday 9th November, please contact your local library to arrange a session. 

Library telephone numbers are available via the Find a Library Page - please phone during advertised session times from the 9th November onwards.

Non members will need to phone a library & discuss with a member of the library team, and have a temporary library membership set up.

Please remember, use of public access PCs remain free for library members who live, work or study in Gloucestershire and for any vulnerable groups such as homeless people or job seekers. Joining the library is free. We do not require proof of ID to join the library temporarily during this period..

What are the track and trace requirements?

  • When booking a slot you are also agreeing to use using your contact details for Track and Trace
  • You must book in advance either online or by phone as we will use your details for Track & trace
  • When logging onto the Computer, in order for your session to start you have to agree to the Acceptable Use statement which includes agreeing to your details being used for the purposes of Track and Trace. 

Track and Trace: using public computers

What will I need when I arrive to use a computer and what can I expect when I visit the library?

  • You will need your library card and 4 digit PIN with you in order to log in to the computer.
  • As we are maintaining social distance and Covid 19 safe conditions there will be minimal contact with staff.  Therefore support when using the computers or scanner will be minimal unless social distancing can be maintained.
  • Wearing face coverings is mandatory in libraries for customers and staff (exemptions apply).

 

How long will a booking be for? Will I be able to book in advance?

The slots will be 50 minutes, with the 10 min cleaning slots. You can book 1 session, up to 8 days in advance.

 

What are essential services?

What is essential may vary person to person and we recognise this.

You may need to:

  • Complete key tasks e.g. apply for a job or service
  • Keep in touch with family and friends
  • Continue education, research and study

Please note:

  • Streaming will be blocked on the public computers e.g. e.g. multi media content for instance film and game content 
  • Customers will be able to access social media to keep in touch with family and friends  but will not be able to stream content via social media platforms
  • Gambling and Gaming sites will be blocked

 

Will printing be available?

Printing and Scanning via a computer will be available. Please book a Computer session in order to access the printer at  the library. Photocopying will not be available.

Please note print charges will be applied to your Library Member Account and no payment will be taken while you are on site at the library. However you will be expected to make payment either via e pay or at a library by 31st December 2020.

Photocopying is not available.

 

Will the public Wi-Fi be available?

No, public wi fi will not be available as a service during this Lockdown period.

 

Terms and Conditions of use

To use a computer you must be a library member and agree to the Library Service's public computers Acceptable Use Agreement and this will include the agreement to use your contact details for Track and Trace purposes.

 

What safety measures are in place in libraries?

  • Social Distancing with signs, markers and staff to support this
  • Layout changes and one-way systems to support social distancing
  • Restrictions on the numbers of people in a library building
  • Staff hygiene 
  • Increased cleaning regimes for equipment used
  • Installation of Perspex screens at library counters
  • NHS “Track and Trace” recording
  • Measures introduced to avoid cash handling
  • Wearing face coverings will be mandatory in libraries for customers and staff (exemptions apply).
  • All sites have been risk assessed and are Covid 19 secure.
