November 2020 Lockdown Message

In line with the Government announcement of 31st October, introducing new national restrictions, county libraries will be closed for general public access from Thursday 5th November 2020. Community Libraries are different so please check individual sites.

We  will continue to  offer our ‘Off the Shelf’ and ‘Reserve and Collect’ services and some libraries will also provide limited access to public PCs for essential use only.  Please check our website www.gloucestershire.gov.uk/libraries for updated information and collection times.

No fines will be incurred whilst libraries are closed, however, should you wish to return any items you currently have on loan, please return them using the library drop box or letterbox.  You can renew your library items at : https://gloucestershire.spydus.co.uk

Visit the Virtual Reference Library  for a range of information resources that can be accessed from home, including the Naxos classical music library, the latest articles from local and national newspapers on NewsBank and the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography.

Bookstart is a national scheme for pre-school children

It aims to help families discover the fun and excitement of sharing books together.

Bookstart Baby packs are for every child before their first birthday. They are given out by Registrars or by library staff and start children on their reading journey.

Bookstart Treasure packs are for every three to four year old children. They are gifted from your child's pre-school setting or library.

If you have not received your free Bookstart pack please contact your local library for more information.

Bookstart for every child, in addition there are also packs for children who need extra support to develop a love of books and reading:

  • Booktouch - for children aged 0-5 who are blind or partially sighted
  • Bookshine - for children aged 0-5 who are deaf or hearing impaired
  • Bookstart Star - for children 3-5 who have a condition or disability that impacts on their fine motor skills.
