Library services for sight impaired people

If you enjoy reading, but find print difficult, Gloucestershire Libraries can help.



A wide range of services are on offer to sight impaired children and adults. Many are free and these include:

  • Large Print books - all libraries stock a wide range of titles to suit every taste and interest. Titles are listed on the library catalogue. Opens new window
  • Audio books on CD - all libraries stock audio books which can be borrowed
  • Free eAudiobooks that can be listened to on a smart device
  • Free eBooks that can be read as large print, or listened to using iOS VoiceOver or Android Talkback
  • Internet and computers - including NVDA full screen reader offering magnification and Windows 10 read aloud and immersive reader
  • Loanable Daisy C.D player - please contact Gloucester Library for information (tel. 01452 426 973)

  • Concessions - you may be eligible for concessions from some specific library charges. Please see the Library Charges page or speak to a member of our staff.


Organisations offering Audio Services

  • Calibre Audio Library - formats include memory stick, Dolphin Easy Reader App, Play Calibre (streamed directly from computer or mobile device), RealSAM Pocket and Speaker (for use with In Your Pocket smartphone)
  • RNIB Talking Books service - access to over 32,000 fiction and nonfiction books for adults and children.   Formats include digital download, DAISY CD, USB stick, Alexa enabled device (smart speaker, tablet or phone)
  • The RNIB Newspapers and Magazines provides access to popular newspapers and magazines to the door on Audio CD, MP3 and USB.  Online to the mobile or computer, DAISY CDs, Braille and big print.  A weekly large print 16 point font newspaper with a TV and radio listing.
