Libraries are open for public browsing and computer access. To check your local library opening hours, and services on offer please check Library Locations and Opening Hours. Some services may continue to be a little different in the coming months but we are working hard resume services when it is appropriate to do so and this website will be updated regularly.

How to enter:

Anyone who is lives, works or studies in Gloucestershire is eligible to make a maximum of two submissions in any of these formats: personal stories, fictional short stories, poems, blogs, comic strips (maximum of 500 words) animation, film, vlogs (maximum 5 minutes). Non residents who do not work or study in Gloucestershire may also send us a submission as long as this reflects lockdown within this county.


Along with your submission we would like you to send us a picture for a thumbnail link to your submission– either a picture of you or something relating to the content of your submission.


Please submit content in the following formats:

  • Written submissions – Word, PDF, handwritten
  • Thumbnail pictures – JPEG or PNG
  • Videos – preferably mp4 or mov


Submissions must include, name, age (if under 18), word count or length in minutes, contact email or phone number and area of residence. Also please confirm whether or not you would like your name to appear on your work

The closing date has been extended and the project will now run until 2nd Decemb er 2020. All entries must be received by the advertised closing time and date.

Submission does not guarantee inclusion on our webpage. The editors’ decision on what is included is final


Terms and conditions:

Selected submissions will be featured on our ‘A Life in Lockdown: In Your Words” webpage, on our social media and in displays in our Libraries once they are open again. Gloucestershire Libraries may also share the content for displays by our partners in this project and, if selected, Gloucestershire Archives may add the content to their Lockdown collection for posterity.

Content will be stored securely on our servers and may be reproduced for displays in Gloucestershire Libraries.

Your data will be held securely in accordance with GDPR regulations, with any personal information you provide only being used to identify your submissions and contact you should we require further information.

Copyright for all content remains with the creator but in submitting your work you will allow Gloucestershire Libraries to feature any or all of the submitted content in any of their future displays, websites, digital collections and in any promotional material.

The editors reserve the right to edit your submission, but will require your permission for final changes before posting.

All items added to the ‘A Life in Lockdown: In Your Words’ project are accepted on the understanding that the person donating them is the owner/copyright holder of the submission and the accompanying photograph for their thumbnail and that they have not infringed the copyright of any third party.

The consent of any identifiable person or persons contained in the content (or their parent/guardian) must have been obtained prior to submission.

Submissions may be downloaded, transmitted, or printed from the webpage with current UK copyright law for any private, research, or educational purpose.
