Our response to Covid 19

Libraries are gradually re-opening from the 13th July

In line with the further easing of restrictions, we are making preparations to gradually re-open libraries, starting with collection services in two libraries per district from the week commencing 13th July 2020.

The Collection Services are:

  • Reserve & Collect

Search the catalogue, find items and reserve them. When the item(s) arrive at your selected library, you will receive an email asking you to select a time slot for collection.

  • Off the Shelf – “We select You collect”

Complete an online form stating the type of books or other items that you would like.  Staff will then select on your behalf, from the stock held within the library you choose to collect from, and will email you asking you to choose a time slot for collection. This form will launch from 10am on the 10th July.

If you are unable to make your requests online, there will be a Ring & Read option and if you are unable to collect your books in person, we will do our best to provide a home delivery service.

The first 12 libraries where these services will be available are:

Cheltenham  01242 532686

Up Hatherley 01242 863010

Longlevens 01452 525952

Cinderford 01594 822581

Coleford  01594 833351

Renewals and stock you have on loan

You are welcome to return items. Please refer to the frequently asked questions for more information.

The majority of existing loans have been extended to ensure that you will not incur new library fines during this period. If any item/s have not automatically renewed, we will waive any new fines which accrue during the closed period and this will occur when the item is returned.

Overdue notifications

You may have received an email regarding long overdue items. We apologise as this was sent out in error. While in some cases the information is accurate, we realise we are still operating a limited service. You can return items to any Gloucestershire library with a drop box or letter box, or renew by checking your account online or telephoning a library.

In some cases this email relates to fines incurred during the library closures and you may have been told your account is blocked. If this relates to overdue items and fines incurred during the period libraries have been closed (23rd March onwards) these charges are an error and will be removed and membership reinstated. This will occur after items are returned to a library. This error has largely arisen owing to the changes in library management system that we carried out in April and we are sorry for any concern this has raised.

Request services are currently suspended

Request services such as Inter Library loan and Music set requests have been suspended during the period libraries are closed.
