LSE provides a banding service for school books that have not been banded by publishers, including:
- KS1 reading schemes, guided reading, general fiction
- KS2 fiction, group readers, guided reading
Book banding brings all schemes together under one colour and therefore limits confusion for staff, parents and children.
What is book banding?
Book banding is used in schools to level books although the scheme was not devised by official educational sources. Many children’s book publishers e.g. OUP (Oxford Reading Tree) now send reading schemes and guided reading books ready banded; each band is given a colour. The advantage of ready banded books is that it takes the ‘guess work’ away from sorting your new books and makes choosing books easier for staff and pupils.
