Shire Hall generates a large proportion of it's own electricity and heat through the use of solar panels and air source heat pumps.

Quayside development in Gloucester also has solar panels included.


Cabinet approval being sought to procure new energy consumption and selling contracts (Dec 2021), which includes for 100% renewable energy. Existing contract runs to September 2022.

Current project details:


  • A bid to government’s Low Carbon Skills Fund was unsuccessful, which included assessment of sites for renewable energy generation.
  • The council has since funded the assessment of 12 council buildings and communal utility blocks across 4 Gypsy and Traveller sites for heat decarbonisation measures, to develop bids in 2022/23
