The climate emergency requires a joined up district wide response that goes beyond the control and means of Forest of Dean District Council. Whilst there is already some good action being taken by organisations and groups in the district, an effective way to link up, scale up and share knowledge of these is needed to catalyse action on the kind of a scale required for the district to become carbon neutral (net zero) by 2030.
The challenge was to identify and deliver a package of measures that would help decarbonise the Council’s Coleford office building, whilst also ensuring economic viability. As a small council with a tight budget, it is important that wherever possible projects such as these deliver a good return on investment by providing an ongoing revenue stream or cost saving.
This decarbonisation scheme was subject to a rigorous risk assessment and then subsequent council approval to go ahead, whether external funding applications were successful or not.
