Quayside Development - reusing foundations.
Gloucestershire County Council and Gloucester City Council working with construction firms to save money and materials in public sector developments.
Some key aspects of the new development (and a sustainability story) at Quayside include the following:
- Instead of mining for new stone, the concrete base of the old building has been removed, crushed and processed to help reduce the council’s carbon footprint.
- The stone material was then reused to build the new Quayside House.
- Reusing the existing foundations and ground floor slab of the old Quayside House will cut the construction costs by an estimated £500,000, saving tax payers money.
- The new Quayside House includes a range of environmental benefits including solar panels, and EV charging points, as well as providing excellent and modern facilities for local residents.
