Phase 4 - Boots Corner Trial
The scheme design for the trial closure of Boots Corner is currently being finalised. The overall concept of the proposals is that Boots Corner and the roads on the approaches will become bus lanes (as detailed on the downloadable plan below) and will only be available to certain permitted vehicles. These permitted vehicles are currently intended to include (TBC);
- Local buses;
- Private Hire Vehicles;
- Authorised Vehicles;
- Pedal Cycles;
- Loading / Unloading 6pm - 10am;
- For access to private off-carriageway parking situated on Church Street and Post Office Lane; and
- For access to the underground car park on Clarence Street.
Please see FAQs for further details.
Other vehicles, generally considered to be through traffic, will need to find alternative routes.
Experimental Traffic Regulation Orders creating new bus lanes will be put in place on sections of the following roads; Clarence Parade, Clarence Street, North Street, Pittville Street, High Street, Promenade/Colonnade and Imperial Circus, together with Experimental Traffic Regulation Orders for revised waiting restrictions.
Subject to the successful roll out of Cheltenham Transport Plan Phase 3 in Royal Well Road, it is intended that these new restrictions will be put in place from June 2018 (TBC). There are two factors for the current timescales;
- It provides sufficient time to monitor Phase 3, constructed in early 2018, and make any changes that might be needed.
- Cheltenham has a significant number of events throughout the year which influence the ability to carry out work on the highway.
The proposed June 2018 start lines up with a period of lower traffic and provides an extended settled period prior to the run up to Christmas.
