Fire safety tips
News of a flu jab and
Some car advice completely free

It’s Christmas and we’re getting out our fairy lights, lighting advent candles and thinking about starting up a festive blaze in the fireplace.

All this adds extra fire risk so make a few checks and relax safely this holiday.

  • Make sure you have working smoke alarms on all levels of your home and test them weekly
  • Remember to check on elderly neighbours and relatives and check their smoke alarms for them
  • Never leave cooking unattended
  • Never leave burning candles unattended
  • Don't overload sockets
  • Switch off fairy lights when you go to bed
  • If you have a chimney, get it cleaned and checked before you light up your fire
  • If you smoke inside, make sure cigarettes are fully out before you throw them away
  • Make sure everyone in your house knows what to do if there is a fire - get out, stay out and call 999
