Data collection - EYFSP and Phonics Screening Check

Information to assist with the return of the EYFSP and Phonics Screening Check assessments.

When assessment data is received by the LA it will be cross checked against that contained in the B2B data feed and schools will be notified of any potential issues that are identified, for example, different UPN or pupils on roll that have not been included in the return. We will then send you notification of any variances, via Perspective Lite, to give you the opportunity to review and resubmit if necessary. Please remember to ensure that any changes you may make to the assessment return are also reflected in the School Management Information System (MIS), for example, SIMS.

So the process steps for 2025 are as follows.

Schools to submit assessment data to the LA, via Perspective Lite, between these dates;

  Expected from Submitted by
EYFSP 9th June 30th June
Phonics 9th June 20th June

Following the Government’s response to the 2017 consultation on primary assessment, on 20 July 2022, DfE announced that assessments at the end of KS1 would become non-statutory from the academic year 2023 to 2024. You may still submit KS1 data to us especially if you have purchased the KS1 data analysis pack, Infant data analysis pack or Primary data analysis pack but no data will be sent to the DfE.

After a cross check with B2B data feed any discrepancies or queries that we have identified will be notified to schools, via Perspective Lite, in an Excel file. If, after checking the data, a school wishes to resubmit the return they should do so no later than 4th July by sending an updated file that contains all of the pupils assessed not just any that have been amended.

Please note that there has previously been an issue with the Phonics Year 2 rechecks due to some submitted files containing two results. Please check that the file only contains the recent result.

Please be aware that if you submit the data to us later than the deadline, we cannot guarantee we will be able to cross check your data.
