Reflective supervision

Reflective Supervision

School leaders will benefit from regular reflective supervision – sessions provide a confidential environment for Leaders and Headteachers to address the impact that their challenging roles and workload demand is having on them and identify resources to become a more reflective and effective leader.

Reflective supervision will allow participants to feel supported to offload and put strategies in place to promote their wellbeing and enhance their effectiveness.

How does it work?

  • Confidential space, away from the busy school environment
  • Four sessions with a supervisor from GCC’s Occupational Health team
  • Sessions can last up to 90 minutes each
  • Free as part of COMF funding

Which schools will benefit?

Reflective Supervision is normally a traded service, available to purchase at GCC+

The COMF funding allows us to offer up to 80-100 individual spaces to school leaders. The allocated funding must be spent by March 2022 with a focus on helping Gloucestershire recover from the affects of the pandemic. We already have knowledge of some schools that may particularly benefit from additional support at a leadership level and we will contact them directly. There is also scope for individual schools to apply.

How can my school apply for a place?

By emailing Occupational Health ohu@gloucestershire.gov.uk with the name and contact details of the school leader who is applying for the sessions.

We particularly encourage participation from schools that can evidence staff wellbeing has been impacted as a result of the pandemic within their community. We will let you know if your application has been successful.

Testimonial

‘As a Gloucestershire head teacher I found Reflective Supervision an invaluable source of support for me during my headship.  Having time and space to speak to a reflective supervisor enabled me to talk through challenges and make sense of complicated situations.    It helped me manage my stress levels and gave me a sense of control over all I was dealing with. Being able to offload to someone in confidence is essential for heads as the role can be lonely.  Reflective Supervision is a powerful tool and one which I believe is essential for all head teachers to support them in their role and their wellbeing.’ Juliette Moxham, Retired head teacher, GCC
