Profile
Whilst supporting PE in schools generally, my main area of expertise lies within the physical activity element of the healthy active lifestyles curriculum.
The proposed national curriculum (July 2013) suggests that the purpose of PE is to: "provide opportunities for pupils to become physically confident in a way which supports their health and fitness."
The aims suggest that PE "should ensure that all pupils:
- Are physically active for sustained periods of time
- Lead healthy, active lives".
Acknowledging this, my company, Learning about Healthy Active Lifestyles, works with teachers and trainee teachers to enhance their understanding of this aspect of PE, and to recognise how to embed sound learning and pedagogy within it.
Our clear learning goal focuses on young people feeling empowered to make informed and positive decisions about the role of physical activity in promoting health and well-being in their own and other's lives.
As PE and Sport lead for Gloucestershire (2002 - 2010), I am familiar with schools in Gloucestershire and beyond, and have experience in delivering and quality assuring professional learning. I am an active member of local networks, and keep up to date with educational developments, through conferences, papers, my own professional development and networking with colleagues.
