Elaine Turner, The Dene Magna Teaching Alliance
Specialist Leader of Education
Current Role: Specialist Leader of Education for Mathematics
Current School: Dene Magna School
Elaine has been teaching Mathematics for 14 years and was appointed Head of Faculty for Mathematics in 2006.
She has taught in a selection of Gloucestershire and South Gloucestershire schools, most recently Wyedean School & Sixth Form Centre in Chepstow and The Castle School in Thornbury. Both schools are large comprehensives with successful sixth forms. She has taught KS3, GCSE, Additional Maths, A level Maths and Further Maths, so has extensive subject knowledge for all stages.
During this time, she developed the quality of written feedback provided by her team and particularly focused on "knowing the student" in terms of data. Electronic seating plans driven by SIMS data have proved very successful. As leader of a large faculty of 17 staff, Elaine has extensive experience of lesson observation criteria and is able to provide constructive, developmental feedback for Mathematics lessons. Support for newly appointed subject leaders is a particular strength.
Elaine joined Dene Magna in 2013 and was appointed as a Specialist Leader of Education for Mathematics earlier this year. The recent changes to the primary curriculum and teaching to level 6 at KS2 is an area in which Elaine can give detailed support for teaching & learning initiatives, assessment for learning and subject knowledge development.
