Profile

Fifteen years spent in a variety of schools, teaching many subjects across a broad age range, alongside holding numerous roles of responsibility related to teaching and learning, has given me a firm insight into the education system.  I have taught in mainstream, independent, selective and comprehensive schools.  Whilst my specialism is Geography, I have also contributed to the delivery of additional subjects, most notably Religious Studies, History, ICT, PSHE, Citizenship, General Studies and the Extended Project Qualification.  Additionally, over time, I have gained great satisfaction from my increasing involvement with both staff and pupils at primary level, especially Key Stage 2, through authoring and consultancy work and private tutoring.

My overriding aim is use my creativity to inspire other educational professionals.  It is hoped that they, in turn, will adopt, adapt and develop new teaching activities and provide stimulating learning experiences for all the youngsters that they come into contact with.  Ultimately, if this has been achieved, then I will have had a small, but worthy, impact on our future generation of educators and learners.

Currently, consultancy work takes various forms.   For instance, I am often approached by companies, organisations or individuals, who are seeking curriculum guidance in conjunction with a specific project or initiative.  In addition, as a Teacher Consultant and Primary Geography Champion for the Geographical Association, I am called upon by Geography/Humanities Coordinators, largely in primary schools, for advice when they are planning or developing fieldwork activities or learning opportunities outside of the classroom.  Where confidence is low, experience is lacking or resources are minimal, I may also support individuals in the leading of such events.  Furthermore, I have continued to create and lead a number of CPD workshops centring on different themes for primary school professionals, as well as offering a range of CPD workshops for Key Stage 2 pupils post-SATs.

Links arising from my consultancy and authoring ventures, supported by independent research, ensure that I keep abreast with developments within education.
