Teaching background
- I currently teach year 6 at St White’s Primary school in Cinderford.
- I have previously taught in years 1/2 and 5/6.
- Since 2017, I have been English subject lead with responsibility for LKS2 in 2018/19 and UKS2 from 2019 onwards.
- I am part of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) and a Lead Teacher within the school.
Subject leader experience
- I have introduced Reciprocal Reading to the school to support guided reading using novels. I have supported a local school with a CPD training session for all their teachers.
- I have provided CPD to raise the profile of reading for pleasure within the school.
- With colleagues, I have developed an approach to teaching grammar through writing.
- I lead staff meetings regularly to provide CPD and support for colleagues within the school and also at other local schools.
- I have experience of supporting local schools in the planning of writing based on finding gaps in the pupils’ writing.
- I have been a LA KS2 moderator since 2017/18 and have led moderation sessions with local schools. I have supported a local school with whole school moderation.
- I attend the LA English Subject Leader Courses and LA Moderator training to keep up with local and national updates.
- I have read a number of books, to support the teaching of reading and writing, that can provide CPD.
- I provide support to colleagues on using the Insight tracking system and NFER assessments.
- Since 2016, I have been part of the Reading Teachers = Reading Pupils with the Cheltenham Literature Festival. This has provided up-to-date CPD on current children’s literature and the relationship between reading and writing. As part of this, I spoke at the UKLA International Conference about my involvement with project.
