Gillian Traverse (MA Environmental Education, BEd Hons) is an Environmental Educator and Outdoor Learning Consultant, with expertise in developing sustainable, curriculum-related active learning opportunities for all pupils in the outdoors. Many pupils benefit from learning in a stimulating and engaging outdoor environment, with positive impacts on the quality of teaching and learning and on teacher-learner relationships.
Recent and on-going support for Gloucestershire schools includes planning and design of outdoor learning areas, habitat restoration and development, delivering Forest School activities, tuition for day and residential visits in the Forest of Dean, Inset training, and developing outdoor practice to support Literacy, Numeracy, Science and Art curriculum requirements.
Current Chair of the 'Dean Outdoor Learning Partnership', Gillian was formerly a GCC Advanced Skills Teacher for Outdoor Learning and Primary Science based at The Wilderness Centre and Plump Hill. She is a Lifelong Learner with a wealth of experience working with pupils and their teachers/practitioners in all aspects of Outdoor Learning. She embraces fully the social, health and learning benefits of high quality, well-planned outdoor provision, which ensures that all children and young people have the opportunity to explore and engage with the natural environment in a sustainable and enjoyable way.
