Profile

Approximately 10 years ago I became lead for safeguarding and behaviour in my school, over the past 10 years my role has grown and so has my experience.

Awarded NPQSL (National Professional Qualification for Senior Leadership) in 2017.

My passion is getting it right for the child and helping them to access their emotions and unpicking their difficult times with an end goal to enter the classroom ready to learn and make friends with their peers.

Learning Walks allows me to provide strategies for staff to enhance their classroom environment and teaching techniques to maintain/build relationships with children who have social and emotional hurdles in their lives.

Working with parents, carers and the wider family to help maintain a consistent approach which is based on an honest and unbiased attitude, also helps build relationships and connect people.

I led our school to be one of the first primary schools to achieve the Gloucestershire Healthy Living and Learning Mental Health Award.

Recently I have been involved with Gloucestershire Safeguarding Board working on pilot schemes and sharing good practise both locally and countywide.

I am an ACE’s (Adverse Childhood Experiences) ambassador and use this to work in the wider community supporting youth groups within the town council as well as connecting with children in the school community.

I believe supporting staff with regular check-ins about their own physical/mental health when the need arises, to enable quality first teaching in school.

I ensure up to date safeguarding information is disseminated and shared with all staff including Governors in a robust training schedule for the school.

Leading residential visits and supporting staff with risk assessments helping to empower them with another set of skills.

Outside the normal day I am an associate governor, I support a local primary school with safeguarding support and I chair Gloucestershire Police Stop and Search Panel.
