Profile
Background
I have been a class teacher for 19 years. I have been a member of the Senior Leadership Team and mathematics subject leader for seven years. Since 2014, I have been a GlosEd leader for mathematics where I have had the opportunity to work alongside and support other schools and share ideas. I currently teach Year 5 but have experience of teaching in all KS2 classes. I have supported staff with the teaching of mathematics in Early Years and KS1.
Teaching and learning:
I have had the opportunity to introduce and lead many different initiatives in order to improve the quality of teaching and learning of mathematics within our school.
The main development I have introduced at Holy Trinity is ‘teaching for mastery’ in mathematics. During this transition, I have involved, supported and reported to a range of stakeholders: governors; teachers (in my own school and other settings); teaching assistants, parents and children. During this ‘journey’, I have been involved in research groups facilitated by the GLOW Maths hub, where I have benefitted from sharing ideas and learning from others.
Areas I can support:
- Teaching and learning of mathematics
- Implementing new initiatives – including the teaching of mastery in mathematics
- Supporting staff and planning to ensure all pupils can achieve and deepen their understanding
- Working with stakeholders
- Supporting a school to develop a mathematics/calculation policy
- Assisting practitioners who are new to the role of subject leader for mathematics
- Assessment and moderation.
