Profile
I have been teaching in KS1 since 1997 and have led mathematics in my schools from day one! I have been a part of the leadership team at my school since 2005. My areas of responsibility have included mathematics, ‘Philosophy for children’ (P4C) and lifelong learning, with a focus on standards in Y1, Y2 and Y3. We have worked hard as a school to develop resilient learners, dialogic teaching and a growth mindset to learning and teaching. I firmly believe that all pupils CAN achieve if they believe it themselves and schools share this belief. Our Swindon Village ‘Yeti’ is well known and has inspired many pupils to succeed. We have developed a lesson structure that supports pupils’ learning and reasoning together.
I have been a GlosEd Leader since 2014. I have presented the story of change at Swindon Village to subject leaders. In 2015 I was recruited by NCETM to be trained as a Mastery Specialist. I lead Teacher Research Groups (TRGs) to develop a mastery approach to mathematics, including regular meetings and a range of support in schools. I have hosted many teachers to observe and discuss lessons. I have led learning walks to set priorities, delivered staff meetings and training for teaching assistants.
I am a member of the GLOW Maths Hub strategic board, helping to shape the mathematics landscape and have led workshops at events on the growth mindset and mastery in the Early Years Foundation Stage. I was chosen to visit Shanghai as part of a teacher exchange and hosted demonstration lessons for teachers.
