My Background

I have been teaching at St Gregory’s for the past 9 years and have experience across key stage two.  I have been mathematics subject lead for the last 7 years and a GlosEd leader for the past 4 years, during which time we received an outstanding Ofsted.  I am also part of the senior leadership team and lower key stage 2 phase leader.  At our school we have key area teams and I lead the maths key area team, which includes other teachers, governors and teaching partners.  I love working with other people to drive maths across the school.

Good Practise / Expertise I can offer

  • I have been involved in teacher research groups on teaching for mastery for the past two years. Working very closely with the GLOW maths hub and other schools has allowed me to implement a successful change in the way we teach maths.
  • Bar modelling – Our children confidently use it from reception to year six as a tool to help them represent the maths.
  • Help / advice on calculation policies, visions for mathematics, fraction policy - to ensure consistency in language and teaching methods.
  • Support for subject leaders – action plans, monitoring, pupil voice.

Areas of expertise

Mathematics
Teaching for mastery to raise attainment for all pupils
Using the bar model as a pictorial representation to help children explain and see the maths (from reception to Y6)
Growth mind set - Creating a positive attitude and love of maths with all pupils, staff and parents
