Profile

I have been in post as a SENDCo since 2015 and have recently completed my national SENDCo qualification. Prior to this role, I worked for fourteen years in large primary and infant schools, teaching Reception and Y1 pupils.

I am Mummy to George, who is genetically enhanced with Down’s Syndrome. George is in a mainstream junior school and my experience with him from a parental perspective has been invaluable in shaping my own practice with pupils with additional needs, and working with their parents.

As a SENDCo a lot of my work has been in upskilling staff – teachers and teaching assistants – to better meet the needs of our SEND pupils. I plan CPD strategically and in conjunction with staff have developed a range of bespoke CPD programmes for the entire TA team. I keep all staff up to date with regular INSET for class teachers and the same is then delivered to teaching assistants through weekly TA meetings.

I have been a senior leader for 14 years, and my current position on the SLT means that I am able to champion the cause for pupils, and develop pupil voice through my own SEND school council, the ‘Inclusion Leaders’ forum.
