  • Ukraine resettlement scheme - Information for schools

    ‘Homes for Ukraine’ Education and Childcare Grant Funding

    In August, the Local Authority (LA) received its first payment for the provision of education and childcare for children aged 2 to 18 who have entered Gloucestershire via the Homes for Ukraine visa route. Please note that those children and pupils who arrived via the Family Visa Scheme do not qualify for this funding.

  • End of KS1 and KS2 Teacher Assessment and Moderation CPD (January/February/March 2023)

    End of KS1 and KS2 Assessment and Moderation CPD enables Y2/Y6 teachers to undertake end of KS1/KS2 statutory assessments.

    The meeting will enable teachers to:

    • understand and follow statutory requirements as set out in the 2023 KS1/KS2 Assessment and Reporting Arrangements (ARA), including 2023 national curriculum tests; and
    • make robust and accurate evidence based teacher assessment judgements in reading, writing, mathematics and science.

  • Energy Bill Relief Scheme

    This week, the DfE has confirmed all early years settings, schools and colleges will benefit from a new government Energy Bill Relief Scheme, which offers a discount on wholesale gas and electricity prices for all non-domestic customers (equivalent to the Energy Price Guarantee for households). A package of support will also be provided for non-domestic consumers who use heating oil or alternative fuels instead of gas, details to follow.

    The scheme will run for all businesses and non-domestic customers, including public sector organisations, and applies to energy usage from Saturday 1 October 2022 to Friday 31 March 2023.

  • The Big Summer Survey – Children’s Commissioner for England

    The Children’s Commissioner for England has launched the Big Summer Survey. 

    The Big Summer Survey will provide new insights into children’s views on family and will be an opportunity to hear from children about how they have spent their summer holidays. On the Children’s Commissioner’s website, you can also find a lesson plan, activity pack, FAQs, and child-friendly version of Family and its Protective Effect: Part 1 of the Independent Family Review to guide schools in how they can discuss family life with pupils as part of the curriculum.

    Cycle to School Week is a week-long event where families are encouraged to try cycling and scooting to school. Cycle to School week is taking place 3rd to 7th October 2022. 

    It’s a great way to celebrate the vast benefits an active school run brings, including its positive impact on children’s health and wellbeing, local air quality and carbon emissions.

    The Regional Schools Commissioner has approved the Academy Trust that will sponsor the new primary aged special school to open in Stroud in September 2023.

    The Home to School Transport Team have been made aware of recent cases where academy trusts and schools have planned a change to the timings of the end of the school day without consulting the LA regarding the impact of the proposed changes, in particular, impacts on home to school transport arrangements and timetables.

    Gloucestershire Anti-Slavery Partnership (GASP) has teamed up with Escapeline charity to provide training on child exploitation. The training is designed and delivered in part by people with lived experience of child criminal exploitation. Everyone has a responsibility to learn how to spot the signs and report all concerns, particularly those working with children and young people.

  • Part Time Timetables – reduced hours or alternative provision

    All pupils are entitled to a full-time education; sometimes in exceptional circumstances there may be a need for a reduced timetable, this should be not be treated as a long term solution and each plan must have a time limit by which a pupil is expected to return to full-time education.

  • Internal Audit common findings 2021/22

    Internal Audit (Audit Risk Assurance – ARA) activity within schools is prioritised based on risk and as such a sample of schools were audited during 2021/22.  Due to the ongoing Coronavirus restrictions, a remote auditing approach was taken.  Individual reports were issued to each school and a number of recommendations were made.  As these findings could apply to other schools, the information is being shared with all schools.

  • Health and Safety Executive Inspectors to assess management of asbestos in schools

    The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) will be carrying out a programme of inspections to primary and secondary schools from September 2022 onwards. The inspections will be assessing how schools are managing the risks from asbestos and meeting the ‘duty to manage’ (DTM) requirements under Control of Asbestos Regulations.
