A new special school for Gloucestershire: intention to launch a free school presumption competition at the end of May 2022
Subject to securing the further necessary approvals, it is Gloucestershire County Council’s intention to initiate a free school presumption competition (under Section 6A of the Education and Inspections Act 2006) to identify a suitable academy trust to run a new 60 place special school in Stroud for children aged 4-11 years with Moderate and Additional Learning Difficulties (MALD). This will be a nationally promoted competition.
Owing to the pressing need to create additional school places timescales will be tight, with applications to be submitted at the end of June 2022 and interviews towards the end of July. Gloucestershire County Council invites trusts who have been approved by the DfE as academy sponsors, and who may be interested in applying, to make contact ahead of the competition being formally launched (subject to approval) at the end of May 2022 to achieve a planned September 2023 opening.
