Choosing a Phonics Teaching Programme - update
The Department of Education (DfE) has updated the guidance on choosing a phonics teaching programme and added the new list of validated systematic synthetic phonics (SSP) programmes.’ The guidance includes details of a ‘supportive package of measures, designed to support schools in providing great reading provision and developing pupils’ proficiency in, and love of, reading’.
The package of measures include guidance for schools on early reading the reading framework: teaching the foundations of literacy.
The framework refers to the following 6 key areas:
1) The importance of reading and a conceptual model
2) Language comprehension
3) Word reading and spelling
4) Children at risk of reading failure
5) Leadership and Management
6) Building on the foundations with older pupils- a summary
