Cycle to Work Scheme

Published
14.05.2019

The Cycle to Work scheme is a government initiative that allows employees to have use of a brand new bike and safety equipment (tax free).

Gloucestershire County Council (GCC) has joined with Cyclescheme to offer this to staff, as part of our green travel plan and to encourage a healthier workforce.

A bike and safety equipment can be provided as a tax-free benefit, by way of a salary sacrifice arrangement over a 12 month period.

The scheme is for employees in community and voluntary-controlled schools only. The school must also be paying employees via GCC’s payroll. As salary sacrifice is taken from the gross salary (before tax) rather than net pay, it means the employee pays less Income Tax and National Insurance.

Access to over 500 different bicycle brands is available, including the UK’s most popular bike manufacturers, through Cyclescheme’s network of 2,000 plus partner stores.

Many of these stores provide electric bikes, folding bikes and other specialist cycles. You can find a partner store by visiting https://www.cyclescheme.co.uk/retailers

The benefits don’t stop there, as Cyclescheme is also the only scheme provider with an online engagement platform attached to it which encourages and rewards cycling – and GCC employees can join for free.

Through the platform, colleagues can set goals, record rides, earn badges and unlock competitions and discounts. Visit the community and take a look.
