Ofsted: Developments in Education Inspection

Published
12.04.2018

In January 2018 the latest inspection framework was introduced. The Ofsted: Developments in education inspection blog looks at the way Ofsted inspects education, from early years to schools and the further education and skills sector. It provides updates on developments and features current issues.

Two recent blogs from Dan Lambert, HMI and Sean Harford, the National Director of Ofsted provide interesting and informative reading.

Section 8 inspection (Dan Lambert: HMI, 14.03.18)

Here, the HMI provides an overview of how a real inspection unfolds.  It results in the HMI confirming that ‘I have sufficient evidence that the school continues to do a good job and so I will not be converting the inspection, or indeed recommending a section 5 for the school’s next inspection.’

What’s an inspection judgement based upon? (Sean Harford: National Director, 20.03.18)

The first part of the blog focuses on the misconception that data alone drives the inspection process.  The second part considers what a school can do if it believes the inspection is not being undertaken properly and in accordance with the inspection framework.
