Part Time Timetables – reduced hours or alternative provision

All pupils are entitled to a full-time education; sometimes in exceptional circumstances there may be a need for a reduced timetable, this should be not be treated as a long term solution and each plan must have a time limit by which a pupil is expected to return to full-time education.

Several recent Ofsted visits in Gloucestershire have resulted in concerns being raised about pupils who are on part-time timetables; any decision about a part-time timetable needs to have due and full consideration of any safeguarding and welfare risks, plus steps to prevent these; any vulnerabilities and risks must be fully regarded as part of your duties to safeguard and promote the welfare of children.

Any pupil on a part-time timetable is expected to have a My Plan + in place (along with a My Assessment) to ensure needs are identified and SMART targets set in conjunction with parents; this will enable pupils to work towards attending school full time with appropriate support in place. Schools should record these absences as code ‘C’ in the attendance register.

It is important as a local authority that we have a central record of all children not accessing full time education in the usual way, including those accessing alternative provision full time away from their mainstream school, regardless of where they are on roll.

Please use the 2022-2023 part time timetables spreadsheet (XLSX, 41.2 KB) to submit details of the any current part time or alternative provision timetables as they occur, when they are amended and when they cease and email to:

Please complete a new sheet each time you submit, do not send an amended version of the previous one as this cannot be processed and will be returned for resubmission.

Please note we will only accept information on the new spreadsheet – any out of date spreadsheets will be returned to be resubmitted.
