Reintroduction of confirmatory PCR for ALL LFD tests
Following the national announcement of the reintroduction of PCR testing following a positive LFD test (at home or in school), our regional PHE Health Protection Team has updated and re-issued the flowchart for childcare and educational settings and the checklist for managing possible and confirmed cases and outbreaks of Covid-19. Both are attached here for your information.
Please note the following:
- If the positive test came from an LFD test (taken at home or in school), the case should take a follow-up PCR within 48 hours of the LFD.
- Close contacts of a positive case must self-isolate for 10 days from last contact with the case, based on either LFD or PCR result.
- The isolation period starts immediately from when either the case’s symptoms started, or, if they do not have any symptoms, from when the first test was taken. The isolation period includes the day symptoms started (or the day the test was taken if they do not have symptoms), and the next 10 full days.
- If the follow-up PCR is negative and the case has no symptoms, the case and contacts can stop isolating.
