Safeguarding – Nobody Understands Labels - REMINDER
Following serious concern over a number of teenage suicides, you will remember that in recent years the Gloucestershire Safeguarding Children Partnership and Suicide Prevention Group have sent out stickers for pupils to put in planners.
The labels were updated for September 2021 and you will see that we have included signposts to both Hope House, Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC) and Gloucestershire Rape and Sexual Abuse Support. This is linked to 3 recent Rapid Reviews undertaken by the Safeguarding Partnership.
Please ensure that these labels have been disseminated to pupils or attached to electronic planners. Below are some notes for staff.
Message to staff distributing labels
In recent years there has been a number of teenage suicides in Gloucestershire as well as some serious attempted suicides. Without panicking pupils or putting ideas to them, we would very much like to provide them with telephone numbers and texting services they can access 24 hours a day when they need to talk. To do this, we are attaching enough stickers for all pupils in years 7 to 13 to put in their school planners. The idea behind this is that they should have access to their planners both at school and home and so will always have access to the numbers.
Message to be conveyed to pupils
The stickers will only be useful if pupils understand what they are for. We would be grateful if you would explain to pupils the importance of having somebody always available to talk to, 24 hours a day and make sure they can access the sticker via their planner which they should have access to all the time.
