Safer Recruitment

Published
20.04.2022

As part of the on-going work analysing the data from the submissions of the recently completed S175/157 Safeguarding Audit, we have been alerted to a high number of settings not being fully compliant with Keeping Children Safe in Education 2021.

Over 120 settings are not providing a copy of the settings Child Protection Policy and practices and policy on employment of ex-offenders in the application pack or refer to a link on the settings website where these documents can be found (para 195 KCSiE 21).

A number of settings are not asking shortlisted candidates to complete a self-declaration on their criminal record or information that would make them unsuitable to work with children (para 198 KCSiE 21). This information should only be requested from applications who have been shortlisted and not requested in the application form to decide who should be shortlisted.

You can find a template for both of these documents on the GSCP website here

Please ensure that you can evidence this for all appointments from September 2021.
